First Team Squad
After being utilised as a backup keeper at the start of the season, Thompson was given a regular run in the Coasters team after Rhys Taylor’s injury at Alfreton Town in August.
The former Chester and Morecambe keeper was signed after impressing on trial during pre-season and played every first team game from 20th August to October 8th. His first start for the Coasters came in the entertaining 3-3 draw with Salford City at Mill Farm where he pulled off a series of fine saves. Despite an impressive debut, arguably his best performance came in the Coasters’ dramatic late win at Stockport County in September 2016, pulling off two outstanding saves from Josh Amis and Danny Lloyd.
At 22, Thompson is still in the early stages of his career and with the progression he has made so far will no doubt forge a successful career for himself.
FYLDE FACT: Thompson joined his first club Rotherham United in the same summer his Fylde team mate Rhys Taylor left the Millers.
