Dave Challinor’s first signing of the 2016/17 season, experienced defender Steve Williams has enjoyed a fantastic start to his career with the Coasters.
Williams began his career with West Lancashire League side Charnock Richard and played against Fylde under their previous name of Kirkham and Wesham. He then moved to Chorley,Bamber Bridge,Hyde and Fleetwood Town before earning a professional contract at West Yorkshire side Bradford City.
Williams became a regular in the Bantams side in his first two seasons with the club but after sustaining a ruptured Achilles tendon shortly after returning from a loan at Inverness, he found his chances limited and was released by the club in 2013. Spells at Macclesfield,Halifax and Barrow saw him once again struggle with injuries but he did score a vital equaliser for Macclesfield in an FA Cup tie at home to Sheffield Wednesday. Since signing for Fylde he has had a very successful start finding the back of the net no less than five times.
FYLDE FACT: Williams scored the Coasters’ first ever goal at Mill Farm.
