Rhys Taylor

Number 1

Rhys signed in the summer of 2016, the former Chelsea and Wales U21 keeper has been a regular in the Coasters side since his return from injury in early 2016/17 season. He made his debut for Fylde on the opening day of the same season and capped it with a clean sheet in the 1-0 victory at AFC Telford United. Taylor started his career with Premier League club Chelsea before getting valuable first team experience on loan at Crewe Alexandra and Rotherham United. Taylor then left Chelsea and joined Southend United and later Preston North end but failed to make a first team appearance. He then joined Conference side Macclesfield Town where he was a regular in the Silkmen’s side for just over two years, making 109 appearances in total.

His good form was rewarded with a move to League Two side Newport County however he was quickly loaned to Conference outfit Wrexham, making 27 appearances as the Dragons finished the season in 8th place. Taylor finally made his league debut for Newport on the final day of the 2015-16 season before being released and subsequently joining the Coasters in August.

Taylor is known for his fantastic reflexes and good communication with his defence.

Commenting on making his home debut at Mill Farm 06/08/16 against Brackley Town, Taylor said: “I went up to the new stadium last week and it looks lovely. It’s in another league to the teams at this level. The plans that the Chairman have are very exciting so it’s good to be here for the foreseeable future.”

FYLDE FACT: Taylor played in the same Wales U21 side as Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey.
